Portland, Oregon | Design: PATH Architecture | Construction: owners
Two friends approached PATH Architecture with a vision of shared living within an urban environment. Based on the duo’s mutual interest in outdoor life and simple expression, the twin homes balance the requirements of the clients, the urban site, and Portland’s particular climate of long drizzly winter and spring seasons followed by dazzling summers and falls. Using a straightforward structural design and balanced fenestration, each home’s depth and richness was realized through an eye to detail. Both houses and their interior cabinetry were built by the skilled owners, one of whom is a partner at Altura Furniture. The windows, doors, and Larch siding were fabricated by the owner’s brother in Austria and shipped to the site. Innovative details, robust hardware, and one-inch thick rainscreen siding ensure the structures will last hundreds of years.
Graham Towers was one of seven residential projects featured in 2012 in the annual AIA Portland Design Matters tour.
